Hariyali Dal is a powerful meal loaded with nutrients and lip-smacking flavors. This is a delicious Punjabi recipe loaded with the goodness of spinach, moong dal, channa dal.
Ingredients of Hariyali Dal
- 3 tbsp – channa dal
- 3 tbsp – tur dal
- 4 tbsp – masoor dal
- 4 tbsp – moong dal
- 2 tbsp – urad dal
- 1 cup – fenugreek leaves
- 1 cup – spinach
- 1 cup – dill
- 1- onion, chopped
- 1 – tomato
- 8 cloves – garlic
- 1.5 inch – ginger
- 1/2 tsp – turmeric powder
- 1 tsp – red chilli powder
- 3 tbsp – ghee
- 2 tbsp – lemon juice
- Salt
- 3 tbsp – fresh green coriander leaves
- For tempering:
- 2 tbsp – ghee
- 1 tsp – mustard seeds
- 1 tsp – ginger
- 2 – green chillies slit
- 1 tbsp – cumin seeds
- 1 tbsp – coriander seeds
- turmeric powder
- dry roasted and powdered:
- 5 – black peppercorns, 2 – cloves, 1/4 tsp – fenugreek seeds, 1 – green cardamom, 1 tsp – cumin seeds, 1/2 inch – cinnamon stick, A pinch of nutmeg grated, 1 blade of mace
How to Make Hariyali Dal
- Soak dals for 30 mins.
- Cook dals with 4 cups of water and a pinch of salt, turmeric powder, crushed ginger and 4 cloves of crushed garlic.
- Heat ghee in a pan and fry onions. Add the remaining crushed garlic.
- Add the chopped tomatoes and red chilli powder.
- Add the chopped spinach, dill, fenugreek leaves and the salt and cook for five minutes.
- Add the cooked dal mix and the prepared dry roasted powders.
- Mix in the lemon juice.
- Prepare tadka by heating 2 tbsp ghee in a pan, adding mustard seeds add cumin seeds, coriander seeds, slit green chillies, ginger strips and a pinch of turmeric and fry all of them.
- Put this hot tadka over the dal.
- Garnish with chopped green coriander.
