Cucumber dal, also popularly referred as Dosakaya Pappu in Andhra Cuisine, is a delicious dal variety made with toor dal, cucumber and other spices. This Cucumber dal can be served with roti or with rice!
Ingredients of Dosakai Pappu (Cucumber Dal)
- Toor Dal – 1 cup
- Yellow Cucumber – 4 cups
- Green chili – 2
- Oil – 2 tsps
- Ginger – ½ inch
- Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
- Cumin seeds – 2 tsps
- Hing – ½ tsp
- Curry leaves
- Chopped Cilantro – 2 tbsps
- Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
- Red chili powder – 1 tsp
- Salt – 2 tsps

- Tamarind paste – ½ tsp
- Water – 2 cups + 1 cup
How To Make Dosakai Pappu (Cucumber Dal)
- Pressure cook the toor dal along with dosakaya, tomatoes, and turmeric powder.
- Mash the ingredients.
- Heat the kadai and add oil.
- Add the mustard seeds, cumin seeds, and hing.
- Add the curry leaves and chopped ginger.
- Add the onion.
- Cook until the onions turn translucent.
- Add the cooked dal, tamarind water, salt, red chili powder and mix them all.
- Let this pappu mix simmer for 5 minutes and then add the cilantro.
- Dosakaya Pappu is ready.
